Top 5 WWE Wrestlers (1998-Present)

First of i'm going to say in advance, this list will probably upset many and I have decided to keep it from 1998 onwards as thats really the point in where I started watching the product at the beginning of the attitude era all the way up to the PG era of today, so theres going to be many of the big names missing but the list will feature amazing performers, both in the ring and on the mic.

1 Stone Cold Steve Austin

Top of many lists will be the beer drinking ass whipping rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin. This hell raising superstar was part of some of the best story lines in the attitude era and his whole fuck you gimmick towards authority and people in corporate suits is what made him one of the biggest superstars in the industry. Who could forget the many conflicting battles between Austin and vince mcmahon, and his family. It is no lie WWE in the attitude era was at its peak of its popularity and Austin was one of the main reasons for the success of WWE at this period. One could only hope the current WWE superstars could have the same attitude as Austin, he was a character who played his role to perfection, a great talker on the mic and received some of the biggest pops, and his entrance music sent shivers down your spine. Austin had some of the most memorable matches with the likes of The Rock, The Undertaker and Brett Hart. One can only wish The Texas Rattlesnake will return to take on CM Punk at Wrestlemania which has been rumoured, we can wish.

2 The Rock

Arguably the biggest superstar to ever come out of the WWE, who around the world doesn't know the name, Dwayne Johnson who has turned his wrestling carear into a hollywood blockbuster. The Rock was at the heart and soul of the attitude era, and one of the most loved performers in the ring. It was not necessary his in ring work which gained him his credibility. When The Rock touched the microphone it was pure gold, no one could beat the great one for cutting a promo, and with his many catchphrases he entertained the crowds for years, aswell as the pure amount of humour, the guy could easily do his own standard. Who could forget the peoples eyebrow, who didn't go around trying to pull it off. Moves like Rock Bottom and The Peoples really electrified the crowd and he had some great feuds with the likes of Mankind and Stone Cold. In more recent times Rocky has come back, in which he beat John Cena at Wrestlemania, thankfully. This just aligns how big of a superstar he is, and boy, he will never loose it.

3 CM Punk

While wrestling has become rather stale in recent years, and the influx of Cena and his Cenation. There is one superstar who has kept us entertained and his name is CM Punk, the self proclaimed Best in the world really lives up to his name. He is a great in ring worker and has put on many great matches with the likes of Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy to name a few, he had the best entrance music in recent years with Killswitch Engages "This Fire Burns, " until he changed it recently. A decision I still disagree with. CM Punk is one of, if not the best current talker and who could forget the famous shoot promo, and the build up to money in the bank 2011 which was WWE at its best. This has led CM Punk to the star he is today and has held the WWE championship for 317 days and continuing, and now he is aligned with Paul Heyman, expect even bigger thinks from this straight edge champion.

4 Kurt Angle

One of the best in ring performers and a great technician, such an athlete was Kurt Angle he could even perform a moonsault which for a guy of his status, is no easy accomplishment. He also has a gold medal in the Olympics which really built up his character. The way he played a goofy kind of character worked perfectly and was the founder of the infamous "You Suck"chants which added to his already great character, in a way a similar vein to what has happened with Daniel Bryan and the yes chants. One of my favourite moments was when Angle screwed the alliance and when he came in a milk truck to the ring and sprayed the whole ring, what happened to the great moment like this ? Angle is now in TNA where he has made it public he was fed up of the heavy schedules with WWE, but I would love nothing more than Angle to come back to the WWE, as his character was one of the best during the Attitude era and afterwards.

5 The Undertaker

Who isn't aware of the legend that is The Undertaker, he has one of the best gimmicks and every time you hear his entrance gong, it spreads shivers down your spine. Easily the best pyro and music the WWE has ever had. I even enjoyed his spell as the American Bad Ass. The Deadman has been involved in some great storylines mainly involving his legendary streak at wrestlemania where 20 opponents have tried and failed which just demonstrates the legend of the character that is Undertaker. he has worked some great matches over the past including his great feuds with his brother Kane and Mankind, he basically made the hell in a cell matches and buried alive matches his own. Undertaker will be forever known in the WWE and is still going strong to this day and its intriguing to know who is next victim will be.
