Ice Age 4 Continental Drift (2012)

Ice Age 4 is the latest adventure for the most unlikelist herd you will ever come across. All the popular characters from the previous adventures have returned for a new and exciting adventure from crowd favourites such as Sid, Manny, Diego and Scrat and other popular characters, there all in for the 4th instalment with a host of new characters as they embark on Captain Gutt and his crewe of unlikely misfits. There's also a new mammal in town, peaches who is the daughter of Manny and Ellie who we were introduced to in the 3rd installment of Ice Age, " The Dawn of Dinosaurs."

The plot is Manny, Diego and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they battle there way through tides, sea creatures and even pirates as the battle it out with Captain Gutt and his wild crewe as they hope to return to Ellie, Peaches and the rest of the gang. While making friends and allies on there journey and in the case of Diego, finding love. Not forgetting Scrat who once again steals the show in his quest to finally capture his nut, bless the guy.

I really enjoyed Ice Age 4 Continental Drift, once again its beautifully animated and really colourful. And provides its share of great twists and climax even if at times it was a little predictable. The film is aimed towards the family market so its hard to pick at it. Apart from Captain Gutt, I wasn't really keen on many of the new characters introduced, they wasn't given enough time to demonstrate their personality so the audience could warm to them and just felt like filler characters. Captain Gutt was a very interesting character, a typical pirate more interested in his bounty than the well been of his crewe and dominating the sea.

They say good things come in threes, well the chemistry between Sid, Diego and Manny was on show again providing a great sense of humour, banter and at time antagonist. However they work so well together and will have you both on the edge of your seats with anticipation and laughter. I wish they didn't add as many new faces as they did over the franchise and just kept it to the 3 amigos embarking on new adventures. Was probably a plus in terms of the plot that they got separated from the herd. Scrat once agin demonstrates why he is one of the best characters, not just in the Ice Age franchise, but in terms of the whole animation world. Its about time this kiddo has his own show. He provides so many laughs with his antics and his high pitch screaming, while at the same time you feel sorry for the guy and are almost willing him on during the film. In Continental Drift he embarks on a treasure map he finds and his searching for a bounty of nuts and what leads to the end is one of the highlight scenes providing great amusement and even makes you feel a little sad.

Ice Age 4 is a great addition to the ever popular franchise, but should they stop before they overdo it ? personally I say no as I have found all the titles very enjoyable and good in there own way. Whilst Continental Drift is not the strongest, Id definatly rate it higher than Dawn of The Dinosaurs. I just wish they would cut down on the characters, which don't look likely after with the likelihood of new characters added to the cast for future films. Overall its a very fun film which will charm all target audiences from children to adults and provide a great variety of humour and a good plot I would recommend this film to any one who loves animation or just wanting a casual film to watch.
